At the end of June, the CEO of the Masterflex Group, Dr Andreas Bastin, and the managing director of REMONDIS Recycling GmbH & Co KG, Jürgen Ephan, shook hands and decided on a cooperation between the two companies. The aim was to set up a circular economy for industrial products made of engineering plastics and to implement this in the market for hose and connector systems.
"There is no doubt that we are still at the very beginning of our journey towards a circular economy system for industrial products made of high-tech plastics. As the Masterflex Group, we have decided to follow this path consistently. To this end, we recently launched our strategic "Hero@Zero" programme. In the future, we will not only offer our customers the right hose from a technological and economic point of view, but also from a sustainability perspective." In a detailed interview between the well-known industry magazine "Technischer Handel" and Dr Andreas Bastin, you can now find out exciting insights into the background and implementation plans for this ambitious Masterflex project.

The concept and vision for a circular economy for plastic hoses by 2035 is now in place. In addition to teamwork, Masterflex is focusing on the clear identifiability of the hoses and developing solutions to make the materials used recyclable. Dr Bastin had the following to say about the process: "The most important basic requirement is that the hoses are clearly identifiable - and we can ensure that. We have been using the Ampius NFC chip for all hose systems sold, i.e. hoses plus connection technology, for around three and a half years. This makes it possible to clearly identify and track the life cycle of our hoses." Dr Andreas Bastin also emphasised that the "Hero@Zero" project will be a gradual transformation process. Masterflex is starting with industrial products, in particular extruded hoses made of various plastics, and is now working on optimising the logistical circular economy.
